There’s so many clips of old school Nick shows on YouTube and it’s really cool watching them. I don’t know what kind of crap is on Nick these days, but I know it’s nothing like what was on when I grew up in the 80s and 90s.
Remember You Can’t Do That On Television? Actually, Alanis Morrissette was on there for a brief time too.
Here’s a 3 part clip from their episode called Divorce:
and their Malls episode…damn I loved this show 😉
and their locker jokes:
I also found a clip of Out of Control
, the show that originally aired in 83/84 but was also rerun ad nauseum in the early 90s, probably because Dave Coulier was on Full House
at that time.
And one of Bill Cosby’s Picture Pages:
And an episode of that show Today’s Special
about a mannequin that came to life.
This episode is called A Visit To The Opera:
And some clips from Belle & Sebastian
Some Clarissa Explains It All

Another sign you should always go along with your first hunch.
At the end of last night’s 90210 , Brenda blurted out Kelly’s baby’s daddy and it’s *Dylan.* I dunno, that’s who I initially thought, but they did throw me off at the beginning with the do-gooder. I guess Dylan is as capable of doing good deeds as Brandon was. Although now as an adult I like Dylan’s character more than Brandon’s (I guess that’s what happens when you grow up), I liked Kelly & Brandon together more than Kelly & Dylan.
It really doesn’t matter, though, this is all fiction, but I guess it was fun thinking about all this fluffy stuff again.
In other very unrelated news, I need to buy a watch. I haven’t worn a watch in *years,* and in recent years I use my cell phone to check the time. But I guess now that I’m working downtown, having a watch will be more convenient for when I’m walking to or from the train or walking around during my 30 minute lunch. That way I won’t have to be digging in my purse looking for my cell.
So, I need a trip to Ross this weekend for a watch, khaki colored pant and maybe another large purse.
I will sign off with an ad for Jem watches (1987):

I love Scrubs and still consider it one of my favorite shows, even if NBC has always treated it like such crap that now it’s being aired on ABC for this next season.
Anyway, as much as I love Scrubs, I was weirdly bothered that they’re showing reruns on TV Land. Besides the fact they rerun it on Comedy Channel ad nauseum, I’ve always thought of TV Land as a channel that airs shows older than Scrubs. Shows like I Love Lucy, Leave It To Beaver and All In The Family. They’ve been showing Cosby Show lately too and for me that feels like they’re pushing it with the newness too. I liked how it was before when TV Land was for shows that aired before 1980 and Nick At Night had the newer shows like Roseanne, Cosby and Home Improvement. I guess as we’re nearing 2010 (yikes!) the bar between TV Land and Nick At Night might need to be raised. I still think, though, that Scrubs doesn’t belong on either channel quite yet. And while I’m at shows belonging, when did the George Lopez Show become classic enough to belong on Nick At Nite at all? I think Nick At Nite should do less George Lopez Show and more Family Matters.
Of course, there are so many shows I wish they would eventually show on either channel….off the top of my head, The Wonder Years, ALF, Taxi and maybe even Maude. And even though I own all the Mary Tyler Moore Show DVDs that are available (only up to season 4, dammit!), it’d be nice if they aired that too so maybe a new generation of folks could get into it.
Anyway, that’s my tired ranting for today. I will leave with a little clip from the Chuckles The Clown Bites The Dust episode of Mary Tyler Moore Show.

Continuing from my last post. My visual retrospective of foodstuffs from the 80s/early 90s.
Keebler’s Magic Middle Cookies
Hubba Bubba Gum
Doublemint Gum (this ad is from the 80s, if you can’t tell from the clothes 😉 )
Juicy Fruit, ad from the 80s
Ice Cream Cones Cereal
Crispy Critters Cereal….I completely forgot this existed ’till I stumbled upon this ad on YouTube. We used to get this all the time.
Bubble Yum, ad from the 80s
McDonald’s McLean Deluxe
O’Boise’s Potato Chips
PB Max Bars
Oatmeal Swirlers…we never got this, I think it was probably too “junky.” But I remember these ads running ad naseum on Nick:
Peanut Boppers….I loved these!

I’ll admit that I’m rained in today and getting a bit stir crazy, which is partially why I’m writing these fun little retro posts. It’s a fun little way of passing my time today. 🙂
Anyway, here’s a nice visual retrospective of 80s and early 90s foods & candy that you may have forgotten about, but I personally remember eating or seeing people eating:
Big League Chew
Candy Cigarettes…before the PC police came along.
Charles Chips & Pretzels
Freshen Up Gum, the gum that squirted
Bonkers Candy…I used to love their ads. I don’t think I ate the candy, I remember the ads more than the candy:

I have about 13,000 songs on my iPod and usually people are shocked to hear that, but I really love my music and listen to pretty much everything. I am probably what you would call a music geek.
So, occasionally a certain song will come up and my mind will automatically flashback to the time when the song meant a whole lot to me or was the soundtrack to whatever was going on in my life. Today that song was Here and Now by Letters to Cleo. This wasn’t super popular, but reminds me of my high school years and just the whole atmosphere that was my life in the early 90s. These days I wish I had those problems I had then…back then I thought my petty little issues were going to be the end of my world, but now I’d love it if my only problems were how to get a certain guy friend to see me as more than that and wondering if I’d find a place to fit in. Anyway, today when this song came on I played it at least 3 times…it takes me right back to that place since, as I recall, I played it over and over when I was that age. I did find a video of it on YouTube. I love YouTube for having so many quirky videos like this easily available.
And eek! I found the video of Beavis & Butthead making fun of it. 🙂 Their making fun of it was still funny to watch for someone that loved the song. Ah, the good ol’ days when B&B was considered such a “dangerous” show. 🙂
